IIFM bags Best Government Business School Award

The Indian institute of Forest Management, Bhopal, which has been ranked as the top sectoral management institute in the country by leading business magazines, has now won the prestigious Dewang Mehta Business School award for ‘Best Government B-School’ for the year 2009. The Dewang Mehta B-School award committee, chaired by Dr. Prasad Medury, Managing partner of Amrop international selected IIFM for this award in recognition of its leadership, development, innovation and industry interface in the area of natural recourse management & conservation. The award was presented to IIFM in a glittering ceremony which was attended by Chairpersons, Directors, Deans and senior Professors of about 100 Business schools across the country, including IIMs on 5th November at Taj End Hotel, Mumbai.

The Annual Dewang Mehta Business School Award has been constituted in memory of Late Dewang Mehta, who was the high profile Chief of the National Association of Software and Service Companies in early years of this decade. Mr. Mehta was the part of the National delegation on technology experts led by then IT Minister Late Pramod Mahajan that visited Australia in 2001when his untimely death came at a hotel in Sydney. Mr. Dewang Mehta was also the Member of High power IT task Force set up by the then prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1998 to draft the National Informatics policy. The Dewang Mehta Award, which is supported by Ms. Shaila Mehta, Director, Onward Foundation for Dewang Mehta Awards recognizes the talent and leadership amongst the Business Schools across India.

According to the Director, IIFM Dr. RB. Lal, the Dewang Mehta Award to IIFM under the category of ‘Best Govt. Institutions’ is most resounding acknowledgement of the Institute’s achievement in the natural resource management sector over the past 27 years. At the same time this award also reminds us the long way to proceed further in the service to the local communities which are directly dependent on forest and other natural resources and enabling them to access the economically gainful and ecologically sustainable livelihood. This award is in a way a recognition of NRM and development sectors with which IIFM has been closely associated, for their immense value to the country’s progress, particularly towards achieving Millennium Development goals.
