METHOD OF SELECTION AND ADMISSION THROUGH COUNSELING

Method of Selection:
(i) The candidate declared/notified as qualified for counseling, based on the merit-rank, shall report for Counseling as per Counseling schedule at Annexure–XI. Candidate shall forfeit the claim for admission if he/she, in-person or through Authorized representative, does not report for counseling. Candidate who has not beendeclared/notified as qualified for counseling shall not be considered for admission on ICAR seats in any Agricultural University at any stage.

(ii) Candidate will be recommended for admission in the sub-subject of choice under the major subject-group at the Agricultural University on the basis of merit in the Entrance Examination and availability of seats at his/her rank at the time of counseling. ICAR-JRF (PGS) will be awarded based on merit rank in the subject opted for admission, and availability of seat in the desired university.

(iii) List of original documents with photocopies, to be produced at the time of counseling:
(a) Date of Birth Certificate
(b) Original Certificates along with Marks lists/grade reports of all examinations from Class-X onwards
(c) GPA reports of all semesters at graduation level examinations
(d) Provisional/Degree certificates of qualifying graduate examination issued by the university. (Those who do not have the provisional/degree certificate, should produce documentary proof from their Registrar about their latest academic status and likely date of declaration of the result/date of issue
of Provisional/Degree Certificate)
(e) Character Certificate from Head of the institution last attended.
(f) Certificates for reserved categories
(g) Admit card for the entrance examination
(h) Counseling call/intimation letter from ICAR
(i) Authority letter/undertaking in the prescribed format (Annexure-III) if the candidate is unable to attend personally for counseling.

Admission through Counseling
(i) The candidates qualified for counseling and called for consideration for provisional allocation to the Agricultural Universities would be generally larger than the number of seats available, provided they have achieved a minimum of 50% marks for General, OBC and UPS categories and a minimum of 40% marks for SC/ST/PH categories in the Entrance examination.

(ii) The candidate, invited for counseling, will have to fill a prescribed Counseling Form (specimen at Annexure–XIII) at the time of counseling. Candidate should give his/her options for choice of subject/ degree programme and University in order of preference.

(iii) The candidate or authorized representative called for counseling (personal appearance) should bring the counseling intimation letter issued/downloaded from ICAR site, Admit Card, All Original Certificates with Mark-sheets, SC/ST/PH/UPS/OBC Category Certificate in original for verification and submission. An amount of R 2,000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only) in Cash, should also be brought as part admission fee to be deposited with the Registrar of the allotted university.

(iv) Authorized representative should also bring the duly filled-in Authority Letter, duly attested by competent authority (Annexure-III). One individual shall not act as representative for more than two candidates.
(v) Candidate, not fulfilling the eligibility condition(s) at the time of counseling, will forfeit claim for admission and will not be considered for seat allocation. Candidature in such cases shall be rejected summarily. No correspondence shall be entertained thereafter in this regard.

(vi) In view of the limited time availability for counseling at the counseling desk, each candidate is advised to keep a ready list of options, in case the filled in options of the candidate have been exhausted by the time candidate reaches the counseling desk. Candidate taking more time before the counseling desk may be asked to come at the end of the queue so that time of the remaining candidates is not wasted. In that case, the candidate shall lose claim of seat at his/her merit-rank.

(vii) In case, all seats in the subject at the University opted for, are exhausted by the time candidate reaches counseling desk, he/she shall have the option to provide fresh choices of subject/university wherever seat is available. The candidate shall have no claim for change of subject/University thereafter.

(viii) Against total number of ICAR seats available for a particular degree programme in a University, not more than 40% of ICAR seats from one State would be allocated to any one University in that subject. While computing 40% number, mathematical method of rounding to the nearest integer would be adopted except where there is only one seat, in which case, the whole seat would be allocated.

(ix) Candidate reporting late for counseling beyond the time specified, on the specified counseling date, may be considered for admission on the counseling date, subject to valid/acceptable reason for late reporting, only out of the subjects & Universities available at the time of his/her actual counseling. He/she will lose any claim for seat at his/her merit-rank due to late reporting.

(x) The fact that a candidate or his/her representative has appeared for Counseling, will not ensure admission unless a seat at the rank of the candidate for Counseling is available and he/she meets eligibility
requirements.

(xi) It should be noted carefully that ICAR allocates the University, whereas the choice of College within the University allotted shall be regulated by the University itself. Candidate may not approach ICAR, thereafter, for any specific College within the allotted University.

(xii) In case a candidate has been allotted any university and subject at the time of counseling and the same has been accepted by the candidate, any request for change/transfer of subject/university thereafter, will not be entertained by ICAR. The candidate, once admitted in a degree programme as per his/her merit-rank and availability of seat at the time of counseling, will not stake claim for change of subject/ University later on after his/her counseling is over.

(xiii) All candidates or their authorized representatives reporting for Counseling will be required to submit original certificates and mark sheets to the Registrar of the allotted University, otherwise admission may not be granted. All original certificates submitted by the candidates may be sent to their respective Boards for verification. In case a candidate wishes to withdraw the original certificates after the admission, he/she shall request the allotted University for the same directly.

(xiv) If any candidate fails to deposit the part admission fee and original certificates as required, the admission would not be granted and candidate would forfeit his/her claim for admission.

(xv) All candidates or their authorized representatives reporting for Counseling will be required to submit original certificates and mark sheets to the Registrar of the allotted University, otherwise admission may not be granted. All original certificates submitted by the candidates may be sent to their respective Boards for verification. In case a candidate wishes to withdraw the original certificates after the admission, he/she shall request the allotted University for the same directly.

(xvi) If any candidate fails to deposit the part admission fee and original certificates as required, the admission would not be granted and candidate would forfeit his/her claim for admission.

Admission through Waitlist
(i) The candidate, who has attended the Counseling, but due to non availability of subject/University of his/ her choice, has not accepted admission during the counseling but desires admission later on out of any consequential vacancy, should submit request for admission through waitlist in a Wait-List proforma which shall be provided at the time of counseling (specimen copy is at Annexure-XIV).

(ii) The request for admission through Wait-List will be considered as per his/her choice, provided vacancy arises in the subject/university within the time limit of student-registration for admission at that university.

(iii) If the candidate does not submit such a waitlist request at the time of counseling, it will be presumed that he/she is no more interested in admission on ICAR seats and no request received thereafter, will be considered.

(iv) It may be noted that a candidate who has been allotted a seat during counseling is not allowed to opt for waitlist vacancies.

(v) Candidate should further note that mere submission of wait-list proforma request does not guarantee admission unless seats fall vacant in his/her choice of university/subject within the time schedule for registration/admission.

Miscellaneous
(i) ICAR seats, if remaining vacant even after utilizing the ICAR waitlist candidates, shall automatically stand released to the Agricultural University concerned for filling up at their level and as per their procedure for selection/admission.

(ii) The candidate admitted provisionally to an Agricultural University through ICAR examination, shall have to report to the concerned Agricultural Universities on the date of registration, as notified by the concerned University. The candidate is, therefore, advised to be in constant touch with the University allotted. GATE 2011 QUESTION TYPES

Multiple Choice Questions

Multiple choice questions in all papers and sections will contain four answers, of which only one is correct. The types of questions in a paper may be based on following logic:

(i) Recall:

These are based on facts, principles, formulae or laws of the discipline. The candidate is expected to be able to obtain the answer either from his/her memory of the subject or at most from a one-line computation.

Example
Q. During machining maximum heat is produced

(A) in flank face       (B) in rake face
(C) in shear zone     (D) due to friction between chip and tool.

(ii) Comprehension:

These questions will test the candidate's understanding of the basics of his/her field, by requiring him/her to draw simple conclusions from fundamental ideas.

Example
Q. A DC motor requires a starter in order

(A) to develop a starting torque
(B) to compensate for auxiliary field ampere turns
(C) to limit armature current at starting
(D) to provide regenerative braking

(iii) Application:

In these questions, the candidate is expected to apply his/her knowledge either through computation or by logical reasoning.

Example:

Q. The sequent depth ratio of a hydraulic jump in a rectangular channel is 16.48. The Froude number at the beginning of the jump is:

(A)  10.0  (B) 5.0

(C)  12.0  (D) 8.0

(iv) Analysis and Synthesis:

These can be linked questions, where the answer to the first question of the pair is required in order to answer its successor. Or these can be common data questions, in which two questions share the same data but can be solved independently of one another.

Common Data Questions

Multiple questions may be linked to a common data problem, passage and the like. Two or three questions can be formed from the given common data problem. Each question is independent and its solution obtainable from the above problem data/passage directly. (Answer of the previous question is not required to solve the next question). Each question under this group will carry two marks.

Example
Common Data, for instance, Questions 48 and 49 in main paper:
Let X and Y be jointly distributed random variables such that the conditional distribution of Y, given X=x, is uniform on the interval (x-1,x+1). Suppose E(X)=1 and Var(X)= 5/3

First question using common data:

Q.48 The mean of the random variable Y is

(A) 1/2  (B) 1   (C) 3/2       (D) 2

Second question using common data:

Q.49 The variance of the random variable Y is

(A) 1/2       (B) 2/3       (C) 1       (D) 2

Go To TOP

Linked Answer Questions:

These questions are of problem solving type. A problem statement is followed by two questions based on the problem statement. The two questions are designed such that the solution to the second question depends upon the answer to the first one. In other words, the first answer is an intermediate step in working out the second answer. Each question in such linked answer questions will carry two marks.

Example:

Statement for Linked Answer Questions, for instance, for Questions 52 and 53 in Main Paper:

The open loop transfer function of a unity feedback control system is given by

First question of the pair:
Q.52 The value of K which will cause sustained oscillations in the closed loop system is

Second question of the pair:
Q.53 The frequency of sustained oscillations is

The questions based on the above four logics may be a mix of single stand alone statement / phrase / data type questions, combination of option codes type questions or match items types questions.

Abour Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is exam accomplished 7 Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science in support to the National Coordinating Board under the Department of Education and MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) (MHRD) and Government of India.

Eligibility
Yu should have minimum eligibility of a Bachelor's degree in engineering which should be like a 4 year University Degree which is similar to US system. You can have Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Pharmacy and Technology or you should have a Master's degree in subjects like Computer Applications, Mathematics, Science and Statistics, like the British system. The exam is generally taken in the month of February of the second Sunday. Some institutions state GATE, a compulsory qualification for admission for even self-financing students. The students who have successfully qualified GATE are also qualified for CSIR sponsored projects and Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories respectively. In some government organizations, a successful GATE score is required to apply for a Scientist or Engineer post. To gain the scholarship, the student must take admission in a postgraduate program. Though, GATE qualification is not required with Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Pharmacy or Technology who seeks scholarship for significant doctoral programs.

Applying To Various Institutes
Remember that GATE scores are required only to apply for the Engineering graduate programs in India. Generally IISc submission dates are inside 4–5 days of declaration of results. Generally most of the institutes don’t state their cut-offs for earlier years so the students might get confused in selecting specializations and institutes.
