Everyone faces the same dilemma once one completes the standard x. That is whether to take science or commerce or the not so popular arts, and from there on what career path to take. It all depends on one's capabilities and likes as to what career one finally chooses.

The conventional
Engineering- This is perhaps the most common career option in India. And it is probably so because of its secured nature.The many facultys include mechanical, electrical, civil, electronics, copmputer among others. It is good for them with an aptitude and interest in physical science. There are many engineering colleges for students passing out of xii in the science(phy, chem and math) discipline. Most of them have Admissions through a common entrance exam. Some of these exams are on an all India basis while others are state specific. The state specific exams allow only students of that particular state to apply for the exam.
Medicine(doctor)-An MBBS is is second to engineering in popularity. It is a noble profession and an extremely secure career option. It is good for those with an inclination toward public service. Required aptitude include biology. Students passing out from xii with biology as a subject have an option of giving an all India common entrance exam called the PMT(pre medical test) or individual state entrance exams. Some institutes like the AFMC(armed forces medical college) also conduct their own entrance exams. Higher studies are a must in order to secure a good position in career. It includes courses in MS, MD or any other specialisaton offered by major colleges around india.
This also includes BDS(bachelor of dental sciences) . This too is a very good career option with select colleges offering courses.
