Notification for Pre-Registration Qualifying Entrance Examination
(Written Test and Interview) for Ph.D Programs – AUGUST 2010


Eligible candidates desirous of pursuing Ph.D. Program (both FT/PT) in the University are informed to apply in the prescribed format and take up the Qualifying Entrance Examination (Written Test and Interview).  Faculty-wise disciplines in which Ph.D programs are offered by the University are as below:

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates those who have passed through 10+2+3+2 / 11+1+3+2 pattern alone can apply
P.G. Degree with 50% of marks for SC/ST
P.G. Degree with 55% of marks for all others
Ph.D. in Education – Only those who have passed M.Ed., alone in eligible to apply

Candidates with UGC/CSIR Junior Research Fellowship / Senior Research Fellowship / Project Fellow or of similar status working on funded projects with the University/Approved Research Centres of the University are exempted from Entrance examination. Please refer Ph.D regulations in the website for details (www.alagappauniversity.ac.in). Applications may be downloaded from website or obtained from the University by post or in person.
The Entrance Examination consists of: 
(1) Objective type (Multiple Choice Questions - MCQ) written test Common to all Candidates of 2 hours duration, carrying 100 Marks, comprising (a) Test of Language Skills (25 marks) and Test of Quantitative Aptitude (25 marks) and (b) Test of Discipline-wise Subject  Knowledge    50 marks) in English medium for all but Tamil discipline candidates; and
(2) Interview carrying 100 Marks (with 70 marks for Subject Knowledge, 20 marks for Research Aptitude and 10 marks for Communication Skills).
Weightage for Objective type (MCQ) written test is 75% and for interview 25%.   

Cost of application is Rs.500 payable by way of DD in favour of The Registrar, Alagappa University, Karaikudi and payable at Karaikudi on any scheduled bank.  Web-downloading candidates have to attach the DD along with the application on submission.  For further details of eligibility and disciplines refer the University Web-site or contact respective Head of the Department or the Dean (Research) Section. PROSPECTUS 2010-11

Alagappa University, established by the Government of Tamil Nadu under an Act of the State Legislature in 1985, and located on a sprawling expanse of about 420 acres in the business town of Karaikudi in Sivaganga District in Tamilnadu is ideally suited for higher education. The campus is accessible from Tiruchi and Madurai in about 2 hours by surface mode of transport.

This  seat of    Higher Education has emerged from the galaxy of  institutions initially founded  at Karaikudi  by the  munificent  and multifaceted personality, Padma Bhushan (late)  Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar  and is groomed to prominence  as yet another  academic  constellation  in Tamil Nadu on 9th May 1985.  As a member of the Association of Indian Universities, it has rewarding relations with other national and international academic/ research/ industrial   institutions that promise a spectacular future to the learners.

15 Schools of Learning: The University has 15 Schools of Learning comprising, 21 Departments, 2 Constituent Colleges and 10 Centres of Development and Studies offering over 60 Programs at UG/ PG/ M.Phil / Ph.D levels. Further, 30 Arts and Science Colleges - Government, Government Aided and Self financing- have been affiliated to the Alagappa University. Besides, the University is offering about 65 programs under the Distance Education mode and another 40 skill-oriented programs through Collaborative mode.

Programs (Regular) Offered:  University offers Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Post-graduate diploma, Post-graduate, M.Phil, Ph.D and Post-doctoral fellowship (PDF) Programs in the regular mode by the different Schools of Learning, through the Directorate of Distance Education and also through Directorate of Collaborative Programs. The programs and their course contents are designed in such a way that Career through the Courses and Prospects through the Programs become possible. Holistic development of the learners is the thrust.

Infrastructure: The University is having good educational infrastructure with state of art Science laboratories with modern advanced scientific equipment. All Schools have computer labs with net connectivity. There are Central and Departmental libraries with on-line surfing facility, besides latest volumes of books and journals. There are three modern Auditoria capable of accommodating gathering for international level colloquiums and conferences. There are as many as 5 large play grounds and as many small ones, enough even to host inter-university national level sport meets/tournaments.
ICT Orientation: The students must be savoir-faire in utilizing ICT resources. Every PG program has minimum 2 courses on computer education. There are also programs like M.Sc (Bio-informatics), MBA (International Business & E-Commerce), MBA (Systems –Optional), and so on with more ICT thrusts. All research programs have ICT components as a part of the curriculum.

Human Resources: Close to 200 Faculty Members (Regular/DDE/Visiting faculty members) with rich Teaching & Research Skills, and Project & Consultancy acumen take care of academic/research works. The faculty members are very strong in publication in national and international journals, securing projects from government and business institutions, organizing national and international conferences and in collaborating with Indian and overseas research institutions. The Administration is learner-friendly.

Pedagogy: Well aware of the fact that the ‘trained-mind’ outsmarts the ‘theoretical-mind’ in every facet, skill building in the learners is intertwined with imparting knowledge. Every program has Training component and/or Project work, besides practical courses, language lab courses, computer lab courses, etc. It is said, 90% of education is encouragement. That is given to everyone, through counseling and guidance.
 
Extension Activities: The multi-skill-set development of the learners and also the development of the neighborhood community are important in any scheme of education. The University takes care of this, through co-curricular courses. The Village Placement Program, NSS, YRC, RRC, etc are committed to these development domains. There are over 20 Cells/Clubs that provide opportunity for students to learn and also serve the society in many divergent ways. Service makes a perfect man.

Value Education: Value education makes us perfect individuals. Value-oriented education gives thrust on educating students on Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural, Environmental and National values while they learn their academic/research curricula.

Request for application: Applications for the M.Phil Programs are invited from the intending learners.  Applications can be obtained from the Registrar, Alagappa University, Karaikudi - 630 003 on payment of the cost of the application, Rs.500, Rupees Five Hundred only, (for SC/ST  candidates Rs.250,  Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty only, on production of attested community certificate) through a crossed Demand Draft  drawn in favour of, ‘The Registrar, Alagappa University, payable at Karaikudi’.

Minimum Marks in the Qualifying Degree for Eligibility for Admission

50% of Marks for SC/ST / Physically/Visually differently-abled
55% of Marks – For all others


Candidates without the minimum marks are totally ineligible.

Down-loaded applications: Candidates can use University Web-downloaded application.

Submission of applications: The candidate should submit the filled in prescribed application, complete in all aspects, along with Rs.10/- stamped, self addressed envelope, to the Registrar, Alagappa University, Karaikudi during the office hours 10am-5.45pm in person or by post. Queries regarding the receipt of application in this office will not be entertained. Hall-tickets will be issued by the University. University is not responsible for any delay or loss in postal transit.

Rejection of application: Incomplete application will be summarily rejected and no query will be entertained.

Entrance Examination: Entrance Examination in Multiple Choice Questions Pattern will be held on the prescribed date for all M.Phil programs offered by the university. All candidates whose applications are in order will have to take the entrance examination.

Selection Procedure: Selection will be based on the marks obtained in the entrance examinations and qualifying degree.  Selected candidates will be intimated by post.  ALL SELECTIONS ARE PROVISIONAL ONLY until fulfillment of all eligibility and other requirements.  University is not responsible for any   delay or loss by postal transit.

Admission Requirements: On receipt of   provisional selection intimation, candidates willing to join should submit prescribed original certificates, an undertaking signed by the Parent/Guardian and the Candidate and remit the  fees  as   prescribed  by  the University within the  stipulated date.

Submission of Certificates, Photos, etc: The selected candidates have to submit the following at the time of admission to the concerned Head of the Department, for securing admission.

iii    Provisional Certificate/Grade Certificate/ Cumulative Mark statement of qualifying degree
iv    Two passport size photographs    v    Medical fitness certificate

Forfeiture of Selection: Selected candidates who do not report for joining and/or do not pay the fee within the stipulated period, will forfeit the seat offered.

Recognition of Other University Students: Students of other Universities should submit the Original Course Certificate/Pass Certificate/Provisional Certificate/ Migration Certificate through the Head of the Department of University within one-month of joining the program to obtain the recognition of Alagappa University.  The admission will be treated provisional till the recognition is granted by the University.

Substantiation of Admission: All admissions are only provisional upto verification of genuineness of the original certificates submitted by the candidates.  If anyone submitted any bogus certificates, the selection/ admission will be set aside and legal action will be taken against the candidate concerned.

HOSTELS: Hostel facility is available, situated in respective campuses.
i.    Separate Hostel facilities (Board & Lodging) are available for Male and Female candidates.
ii.    Those who need Hostel accommodation may approach the Wardens of the respective Hostels by producing their admission fee remittance receipt.
iii.    Establishment fees payable to the Hostel - Rs. 8,200 /- per annum.
iv.    Boarding charges for every Month will be collected under dividing system.

Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat conferred the Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award for 2010

UGC Chairman, Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat conferred the Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award for 2010 The Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Prof Sukhadeo Thorat, was conferred with the prestigious, Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2010. The award ceremony was held on 10th April in Kolkata. The Award, instituted in 2000-01, by the Mother Teresa International and Millennium Awards Committee under the banner of the city-based All-India Minority and Weaker Sections’ Council, has some notable winners including, late Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu , US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi (posthumously). Mother Teresa International awards are presented to eminent personalities who have excelled in the fields of education, science, culture, music, sports, social work, medicine, industry and politics, both at home and abroad. Prof. Thorat, is an eminent author of several publications (21) on agricultural development, rural poverty, institutional and economic growth, problems of marginalized groups, economics of caste system, caste discrimination and poverty, human development, human rights issues, thoughts of Ambedkar, and slums. As Chairman, UGC, he has been instrumental in introducing several academic and administrative reforms in the higher education system during the ongoing XI Plan. He has combined academic activity with social activism and created awareness about the marginalized section in the Indian society. The Human Resource Development (HRD) Group of COUNCIL OF SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH (CSIR), New Delhi, provides opportunities to bright young men and women in the form of Senior Research Fellowships (SRFs)/ SRF (Extended)/ Research Associateships (RAs) for training in methods of research under the expert guidance of faculty members/scientists working in universities, laboratories and institutes of Government Departments and recognised laboratories of industry in various fields of science and technology.

Preference will be given to the research topics relevant to R&D programmes of CSIR Laboratories, in the new and emerging fields of science and in the areas of importance for development of scientific and technological capability of the country. Subject: Filling up the post of Project Assistants on temporarily basis for ongoing schemes of HRDG

The various programmes and activities of the HRD Group are related to: Identifying budding talent having aptitude and aspirations to work for the generation of new knowledge and technology; Funding of extra mural research; Development of S&T manpower; Nurturing young talents; Promoting excellence through awards and honors; and encouraging interaction among scientists. These programmes cover a wide range of S&T disciplines for every age groups (16 years to 65 years) and are undertaken through a true Team India partnership i.e., with active involvement and participation of eminent scientists and experts from academia, industrial R&D units, S&T departments, etc.

The selection process shall include a screening, aptitude test / interview or both. Personal interview will be limited to such selected candidates declared successful based on relative ranking if a test is conducted. The number of Project Assistants selected may vary based on requirement. Mere possession of the minimum prescribed qualification and experience will not entitle a candidate for being called for aptitude test/ interview or both. HRDG CSIR reserves the right to call for aptitude test / interview only such candidates who in its opinion are found suitable based on a criteria evolved. Other things being equal, preference would be given to SC/ST/OBC candidates. Age relaxation to SC/ST/OBC candidates will be as per Government of India Orders in vogue. The decision of the HRDG CSIR about fulfillment of qualification etc. shall be final. Canvassing in any form would be a disqualification. The crucial date for determining age limit shall be 25.08.2010. No TA/DA would be admissible for attending the written Test / Interview.

The minimum requirement of percentage of marks for Project Assistant Level I shall be 50% & for Project Assistant Level II and above 55% in the Qualifying Examination. In case of SC/ST Candidates, minimum percentage of marks shall be relaxed by 5% for qualifying Examination. Upper age limit will be relaxable by 5 [Five] years for SC/ST and by 3 [Three] years for OBC candidates.

The Department of Electronics and Accreditation of Computer Classes (DOEACC) is an autonomous scientific society under the Indian Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, and is involved in training, consulting, product development, entrepreneurship and human resource development in information, electronics & communication technologies. It is based in New Delhi  with a network of centers around the globe. The DOEACC Society was created by the Department of Electronics to implement a scheme of the AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education), with a view to harness the resources available in the private sector for training in the Computers, with a view to meet the increasing requirement of the trained manpower. In December 2002,other Societies of the Department of Information Technology, (Dept. of Electronics was renamed as Dept. of Information Technology) like CEDT Aurangabad, CEDT Calicut, CEDT Jammu/Srinagar, CEDT Tezpur/Guwahati, CEDT Imphal, CEDT Aizwal, CEDT Gorakhpur, RCC Chandigarh, RCC Kolkatta were merged into the DOEACC Society. NCERT Announces National Talent Search Examination-2011


National Talent Search Scheme is a flagship activity of the NCERT started in the year 1963. The purpose of the scheme was to identify talented students and nurture their talent. Talent refers to the potentiality that manifests itself in a high level of performance in one or more specialized areas

The scheme, therefore, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law

It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship

For the courses in Basic sciences, social sciences and commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D level

For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation

The NCERT conducts the National Talent Search Examination for students studying in class VIII only

1. Scholarships: On the basis of the examination conducts, 1000 scholarships will be awarded for each group of students appearing for class-VIII examination. The amount of scholarship will be Rs 500/- per month as per NTS rules


2. Reservation: 15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged group of students


3. Selection: There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For Stage-I, selection will be done by states/UTs through a written examination. Students who qualify Stage I will be eligible to appear for Stage II examination conducted by NCERT

4. The States/UTs will also conduct the selection test for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme along with the Stage-I written examination for NTS.

6. Eligibility: Students of Class VIII studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for the respective Class VIII Stage I examination conducted by the States/UTs in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction.

7. Examination: The pattern of written examination for Class VIII will be as follows:

• Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics.

• Stage II examination at the National level will comprise (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT), (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics, (c) Interview. Only those candidates who qualify the written examination at the National Level will be invited for interview.

8. State Quotas: Each State/Union Territory has been allotted a quota to recommend a specific number of candidates for the Stage II examination, the details of which will be made available on NCERT website. However, there will be no State/Union Territory Quota for the final award of scholarship after the Stage II examination. Reservation for SC, ST and physically challenged will be as notified in para 2 above.

9. NTSE Application Form: You may contact the State/UT Liaison officer for procuring application form. However, application form can be downloaded from NCERT website also. All correspondence relating to application forms should be addressed to the State Liaison Officers (LOs) whose addresses are given at the end/Website.

10. The completed application form duly signed by Principal of the school should be submitted to the LO/ concerned district official of the State before the last date.

11. Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required which will be paid for the Stage-I examination. Therefore, before submitting the application form you may find out the fees charged for 2010 stage-I examination and also the mode of payment from the respective State Liaison officers, (LOs). However, NCERT does not charge any fee for Stage-II examination


12. Announcement of Results: NTSE Results of the Stage-I examination will be announced by the respective State Governments/ Union Territories. Results of Stage-II examination will be announced by NCERT.

13. Indian Students Studying Abroad can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure for class VIII which is available on the NCERT website. Candidates may fill up relevant items of the Application Form available on the NCERT website and send to the undersigned along with a photocopy of the mark sheet of previous examination latest by March 31st, 2011

1) Junior Residents

Application Fee: Application Fee which is non refundable (in case of General & OBC Candidates Rs.500/- and for SC/ST Rs.100/-) must be submitted in the form of Bank Draft payable in Delhi in favour of Medical Superintendent, Bhagwan Mahvir Hospital, GNCT of Delhi, Pitampura, Delhi-110034.

Note: -

Conditions for appointment:-

1.  Appointments for JR’s will be initially for a period of 06 months extendable   upto a maximum of one year (Inclusive of his/her period of JR ship already rendered in any other Govt. Institutions/Hospitals/elsewhere) extension of service of JR beyond six months wherever applicable is subject to their satisfactory work and conduct.

2. Appointment will be subject to medical fitness and verification of character and antecedents, Educational Qualifications/Age/Caste/DMC registration and internship completion certificates etc.

3.  Selected candidates will be required to deposit Rs.10,000/- in the form of Fixed Deposit for one year as security deposit in favour of MS, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, GNCT of Delhi, Pitampura, New Delhi.

4.  Hostel Accommodation, as and when available in the hospital premises, will be provided on first come first serve basis, HRA will be admissible only if Hostel Accommodation is not provided by Hospital Administration.

ABOUT ITBP

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is an Indian paramilitary force conceived on October 24, 1962 for security along the India's border with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, border covering 2115 kilometers.

Only four battalions were sanctioned to begin with, to fill up the security vacuum that was prevalent at that time on the Indo - Tibet border. Later in view of the additional responsibilities and the task redefined in 1976, the Force was restructured in 1978.

The ITBP is trained in mountaineering, disaster management, and nuclear, biological and chemical disasters. ITBP personnel have been deployed abroad in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Haiti, Sudan, and elsewhere.

The Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) is an institution of basic research and training in physical and biophysical sciences located in Bidhannagar, Kolkata, India. The institute is named after the famous Indian physicist Meghnad Saha.
The Palit Research Laboratory used to be a laboratory under the Department of Physics in the University of Calcutta. Meghnad Saha became the Palit Professor of Physics at the University of Calcutta in 1938. Realizing the ensuing importance of nuclear physics, he reorganized the curriculum to include nuclear physics and commissioned some necessary instruments. Soon the necessity of a small-scale cyclotron was felt. Thanks to the help of Jawaharlal Nehru and patronage of J.R.D.Tata, the foundation stone of the Institute of Nuclear Physics was laid at Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Calcutta in 1949. The building was inaugurated in 1950 by Irène Joliot-Curie. The institute shifted to its new building in Bidhannagar in the late 1980s.

ABOUT HAL

ABOUT BSF

The Border Security Force (BSF) is a border patrol agency of the Government of India. Established on December 1, 1965, it is a component of the paramilitary forces of India (PMF) and its primary role is to guard India's international borders during peacetime and also prevent transnational crime. Like most paramilitary units of India, the BSF is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is one of the many law enforcement agencies of India.
The unique BSF Camel Contingent during the annual Republic Day Parade.

With a strength of 240,000 men in 186 battalions, including women battalions[2][2][3], it is one of the world's largest border patrol forces. The current Director General of the BSF is Raman Srivastava.

Eligibility: If you hold a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent diploma with relevant experience in design, or if you have completed your undergraduate studies equating to 180 ECTS credits for European students, you are welcome to apply to the program.

Fees:- The fees for the Advanced Diploma Program in Transcultural Design will be Rs 2.75 lakh per year. This covers the tuition fee for the program. It does not cover your travel and accommodation costs in India and France.
