IIT Guwahati Master of Arts (MA) [Development Studies]

Eligibility:

Eligibility for Regular MA Candidates: A Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years’ duration or its equivalent from a recognized University, in any discipline with a minimum average of 50 % marks or 5.5 CPI in a 10-point scale.

Candidates still to appear in their final Bachelor’s Degree examinations may also apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations and complete all requirements for their degrees before 19-07-2011. If selected, such candidates shall be admitted provisionally, and they will have to furnish the results of their qualifying degree examinations latest by 02-09-2011. Further, they must obtain the minimum required marks/CPI mentioned above. Failure to fulfill either of the two requirements shall automatically result in cancellation of admission.

Eligibility for Sponsored MA Candidates: Same as for `Regular’ candidates, but also fulfilling additional conditions specified for Sponsored (Full-Time) candidates, as indicated under  “Categories of Students for MA Programme”.

Selection: - Applicants satisfying the eligibility requirement will be assessed for selection through a written test. The written test aims at assessment of knowledge about contemporary issues in the field and sensitivity to social issues, expressed through written analysis in English.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants.

About IIT Guwahati

The history of IIT Guwahati traces its roots to the 1985 Assam Accord signed between the AASU and the Govt. of India, which mentions the general improvement in education facilities in Assam and specifically the setting up of an IIT.

Lecture Hall Complex

IITG was established in 1994 by an act of parliament and its academic programme commenced in 1995. IITG admitted its first batch of students into its Bachelor of Technology programme in 1995. The selection process was the same as that of all IITs, i.e. through the Joint Entrance Examination. In 1998, the first batch of students were accepted into the Master of Technology program through the GATE.

The campus of IITG is situated on the northern banks of Brahmaputra and abuts the North Guwahati town of Amingaon.
